My professional background

Dr. Theo Tsaousides is a neuropsychologist who has served as a clinician, researcher, educator, supervisor, and trainer.  He provides services to individuals, groups, and organizations locally and internationally.

He received a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University at Albany, State University of New York, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Research at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

Upon completing his fellowship, he served as a research professor and director of training at the Brain Injury Research Center at Mount Sinai.  For the last few years, he has been in independent practice in New York.  Currently, he is on faculty at Mount Sinai, St. John’s University in New York, and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.  He is board-certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology.

Dr. Theo is a brain-training expert.  He has extensive clinical and research experience in cognitive rehabilitation, a set of interventions that aim to improve a person’s ability to perform cognitive tasks, so that they can increase their productivity and quality of life.  More specifically, the strategies he teaches target the executive functions of the brain, a set of mental skills involved in goal achievement.  Through intensive training and practice, he helps his clients use their brains more efficiently for the pursuit of their own goals.

Dr. Theo contributed to the development of the Executive Plus program, a set of interventions designed to improve executive functions in people with traumatic brain injuries (Cantor et al., 2014).  He also co-created EmReg™, a training program designed to improve emotion regulation, the ability to identify and influence one’s own emotions.  Good emotion regulation skills lead to more confidence, better relationships, and higher productivity (Tsaousides et al., 2014; Tsaousides et al., 2017).

Dr. Theo has published several articles and book chapters on neuropsychological rehabilitation following brain injury.  He delivers presentations and workshops nationally and internationally.  He is a reviewer for a number of high-impact scientific journals, and continues to provide training and supervision to clinicians and staff on assessment and intervention following brain injury.
